This is an introductory course in Computer Science designed for beginners. Apart from leading the participants through a whirlwind history of computing, the course also develops a feel for web programming through a series of lectures that help the students develop their own web page. Main objective of the course is to build an appreciation for the fundamental concepts in computing and to become familiar with popular PC productivity software.
This course, using both lecture and laboratory practice, introduces students to basic computer concepts in hardware, software, networking, computer security, database, e-commerce and other emerging technologies such as wiki and Google applications. Students learn techniques to search information found online. Widely used applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation, and web development software are studied.
Course Objective:
- After successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:-
- Understand basic functions of computer hardware and software components including operating system functions
- Identify various networks (LAN, WAN, intranet), topologies (ring, bus, star), protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP &DNS), media types and network hardware.
- The importance of this course should motivate you all to take keen interest in the class proceedings and try to work hands on.
- Design and create web pages using HTML
- Understand the fundamentals of system analysis, life cycle of a program development.
